Questions To Ask A Kitchen Remodeling Company Before Hiring Them

Kitchen remodeling is perhaps the most expensive remodeling project you can take up in your home. Searching for the right kitchen remodeling contractor for this job is critical as well. You should get bids from at least 5 contractors before making any decisions.

The first thing you need to do is to put together a blueprint of what you need done at home. Go online and search for ideas. Visit home improvement stores and find out all the material options you have. This will not only give you ideas for your remodel but will also make it easier for you to put a budget together for the entire project.

Once you have done all of this, you should speak with each of the contractors who you have shortlisted and ask them the following questions:

Duration

A kitchen remodel can be a lot of fun but it can also be stressful. You are not going to be able to use your kitchen while it is being remodeled and will be at the mercy of the contractor until the job is done. You need them to give you an estimate regarding how long they will take to complete the entire project. This estimate should also include details regarding how much the project will cost.

Credentials

You should ask them to show you their licenses and credentials. You would want to make sure that they have all the necessary licenses in place and are thorough professionals with the proper training. They should also have sufficient insurance coverage in case anything goes wrong during the remodel. You wouldn't want to be stuck paying for things using your insurance.

Experience

It is paramount for you to get a company with sufficient experience. A company with at least 2-3 year experience in the industry is recommended. If you get someone with less experience, you will not really know how good or bad they are. Would you be willing to risk your kitchen remodel on that?

References

You should also ask them if they can provide any references. If they have many satisfied customers then this shouldn't be too hard for them to do. On the other hand, if they have trouble coming up with more than one or two names and don't let you speak with the references yourself, something is fishy. You certainly shouldn't give them the freedom to work on your kitchen.

Once you've gathered bids from all of them, it is time you start comparing everything. So you see making a final decision is about much more than just going online and choosing the first result in Google search. The lowest bidder is most probably going to be willing to cut corners.

The highest bidder is probably overcharging you. That leaves you with three in the middle. Compare the answers they gave to all of the above questions and see which ones were satisfactory. If everything is neck and neck and you can't see a clear cut winner, just go with your gut.
